That sounds like a scape goat for pharma to me. I mean, compare it to a neutral situation. Imagine we get a COVID scenario pandemic that's actually killing people and is naturally sourced.
The government goes to the pharmas and goes 'this disease is killing us, here's unlimited money to save our asses!'
And the pharmas go 'okay, here is blow fish toxin to inject in your veins' because they have a vial of it on their shelf and it kills the virus in a petri dish.
Can you really say 'oh, the government was pressuring us for anything we could give them'? I'm sure they were, people were dying. What are they gonna do? Close the door and walk away and never talk about it again?
What did Trump think they were going to do when he pressured them like that?
Almost all work happens under pressure. Timelines, constraints to completion, hurdles in completion.
It's not incumbent on a customer to become an advanced contractor, it's incumbent on the contractor to be realistic and feed that reality to the customer.
And, once Trump had the vaccines, he then only recommended them. It wasn't until his rivals - who cried and gnashed their teeth every step of the way about making the vaccines in the first place - gained power that they became required and coerced.
Why were they bad under Trump and acceptable under Biden?
