Gov. Ron DeSantis for months has been trying to get the federal government to approve using Guardsmen as immigration judges.

He's the governor. The governor controls his state's NG unless the president (CIC) calls on them.

Yep. It was reported back on May 1st that Trump approved training NG JAG officers in a 6 week expedited training program on immigration law.
