I agree as far as there being a deceiver. Many characterize God as still the jealous angry God that he seems to be in the Old Testament. They won’t pay much attention to other things in those books like not cutting our hair but they are quick to point out that he’s all about punishing where as in the New Testament he’s more in line with what I believe he truly is, patient and pure love. I don’t really believe everything in either one because I know it’s been changed and interpreted differently all of these years, there’s just no way it hasn’t been.
