I'm big enemy of clickbait. (In my imagination,) think Clint Eastward in Magnum Force but where the perps are clickbaiters. If you do a search for "Clickbait" in the "search community..." field, you'll find some 7 or 8 in-depth exposes and analyses I've posted regarding a variety of clickbait sites, methods and their (negative) impact.
But I don't quite count this headline (subject line) as clickbait.
Firstly, the source is a well-known based writer. This guy has a track record that most digital soldiers would envy, or at least admire.
Secondly, notice how the subject line (headline) is missing the normal clickbait tells: "BREAKING!!!" All CAPS!!! Extreme language!!!
Thirdly, the headline incorporates a very based info war expression that has now reached from the fringe to the more central ideas: "narrative armor".
But, a few caveats:
One, I am not a big fan of frogs just copy/pasta headlines or tweets or truths quotes and using them as 'Subject lines'. A subject line should be more informative: Who said this? What did they say? A subject line should give an intro to the content rather than merely reproducing the headline (grabline) used by the article, tweet or other sauce.
Two, the sauce is a writer. So, yeah, in his headline, there is literary device. He's attempting to capture the potential readers attention. But, its also backed up by high-grade quality content (imo). I'm half way thru this article, and I'm thinking its fantastic. In the good sense.
Clickbait uses sensationalism and extreme emotional triggers to grab a person's attention and get them to engage with sh*t. Essentially. Mobilized by the triggers embedded in the grabline, the reader engages with bullshit, some not recognizing it for the pile of garbage it is, too hopped up on the emotionally-driven dopamine to think critically or clearly.
Folks who read my nonsense know how much I detest clickbait, especially when its thrown up here. In this case, I don't really resonate with your indirect assessment that this is a 'clickbait headline'.
But maybe, different streams for different frogs? Carry on.
