Number one, the only reason you think that is Jesus, is because you were told that's what he specifically looks like via a VERY successful marketing campaign.
In fact, there's some good evidence that picture is REALLY based off of the likeness of Cesare Borgia. I'll let you research that if you want to be enlightened on that particular graven image.
Trust me Jersey - I grew up Roman Catholic with that picture in every room and the sun visor of every car. I know ALL ABOUT how the eyes follow you everywhere you go. It's a neat trick.
However... let's be REAL CLEAR - nobody knows what Jesus looks like, EXCEPT for the biblical description. EVERY Christian has has been told REPEATEDLY throughout their lives the 10 commandments. And yet, here we are...
The commandment "thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image" is the Second Commandment in the Ten Commandments. It is found in Exodus 20:4-6 and prohibits the creation and worship of idols or any likeness of things in heaven, earth, or sea. The prohibition is against idolatry, specifically worshiping earthly things as representations of God.
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of bondage and slavery. You shall not have any gods before me.
God... Jesus never said he was God, besides a channel for God, and he certainly didn't give the impression that he wanted to be "worshipped"... instead, Jesus, the CHRIST, is called, "The Way" - and has specifically told us that he is the EXAMPLE for us to FOLLOW - "You can do all these things and more"
I guess the old testament is just for those "old jews" and despite Jesus specifically saying, "I did not come to change one letter of the law, but to fulfill it" - everyone ignores God's intelligence regarding not eating scavengers like shellfish and swine and they wonder why they get sick... Jesus wouldn't eat that crap - he also wouldn't eat a cheeseburger. "Oh Jesus changed all that... whatever we want for food is okay now..." Misinterpretations and ignorance...
Just to be clear, I think that dude with a beard, whoever he is, eating popcorn is wonderful. It's not even Jesus...but many seem to "just believe it is" - what if it is? So what? We gonna burn in hell for light hearted "Jesus memes"? This is where it starts getting deep into superstition, twisted beliefs and other nonsense like the church buying plastic trinkets made in China, selling them as "relics" and now you can't just throw away these graven images spit out like cookies by someone in China in a sweatshop running a plastic injection machine, you must now bury them... That shit is whack yo.
Sorry - but that's all RELIGION - with precisely ZERO to do with THE CHRIST and your eternal soul. The CHRIST - I did not say Jesus, I said the CHRIST is the way to God. There is only ONE GOD... but there's freedom, liberty and the "Law of Allowance" that permits you to either KNOW or believe, whatever you want. I respect that, but reciprocity will NEVER occur the other way with hardcore Christians. I care not about religion. It's a dead end. Christ told us how to meet God through him, but religion will never tell you because you won't need them anymore.
Maybe it's time for some to grow up, challenge everything they were forced to learn and believe as a child - because this is what our tribe believes and you're gonna believe it too until you're old enough to make your own decisions. And that's how it goes over and over again... and the next thing you know, people are knocking themselves off center and destroying their inner peace over a bearded guy eating popcorn.
I fully expect piling in now... bullying in the name of Jesus. Its not even his name...Yeheshua...Arguing and splitting hairs about what Bible is the correct one and whatever else illicits anger and unpeaceful behavior...I expect nothing less.
Each to his own, Jersey fren.
It’s just how I feel. Of course you can pile a bunch of logic into it but matters of the heart for me and who that picture symbolizes.
I find this meme of Jesus eating Popcorn so disrespectful. He is my God and died a painful death for us.. idk, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.
Imagine doing this meme of Mohammed? There would be a riot on the streets now.
I dunno... there's lots of ways to look at it.
