Ukraine is an artificial state, not a nation state.
Genocide is the willful objective to kill a genus = a sort of people; a race.
What is going on in Europe with mass immigration = genocide. Calling every war a genocide deteriorates the meaning the of the word till it has no meaning anymore.
Is it a slaughter? Yes.
In terms of NATO: If these Ukranians are ready to end the war, they can end it. And the fun fact is, they will be better of. All they have to do: say no, act accordingly.
By using the word genocide it is actually calling upon the international community to intervene. And that would prolong the slaughter.
The term has been misappropriated. The genocidal beginning of the war was when the Ukrainian government decided in 2014 (post-Maidan coup) to subject the Donbas ethnic Russians to genocide, by simple lethal attacks. The Russians finally could not tolerate this and stepped in by 2022. The logic here was analogous to the U.S. finally stepping in to intercede on behalf of the Kosovars against the rightful sovereignty of Serbia. We were in the wrong, as the Kosovars were busy burning 400-year-old Serbian Orthodox churches. But Russia is in the right in this situation. In any case, if a genocidal government wants to continue its genocide against armed opposition---by suicidal efforts to prevent defeat---it reflects a mentality that considers it preferable to kill every last Ukrainian than to relent on the destruction of the Donbas. That degree of perverse evil is breathtaking.
