Indeed. Russia is extremely large, and really does not need the land (except what they have already taken repsonsibility for, because the people there, voted so, and also land-corridor to Crimea. <This last part is pretty funny, as the Russians immediately built a railway-line over that land, so that the Kerch Bridge is now ENTIRELY civilian. So, bombing that bridge is definitely a war-crime.

Russia is fighting for the rights of Russians living in previously occupied-by-Ukraine lands. The people there sat there without any social security payments for eight years, literally selling their bodies to sciencce or prostitution to survive,because Kiev had cut that money off. Remember that Ukraine never officially became a country - the 'declaration of independence' just sort of happened when USSR fell.

But this is the part that people (especially NAFO-troons) find so hard to understand: Russians are not after land - they are after killing Ukrainians. (denazifying) and burning NATO materiel (demilitarizing). furthermore, they want Ukraine to elect a new president (as this one expired over a year ago). They want NATO get away from their borders (buffer-zone) . But those last three details come later.

When Russians advance, it's because there is no more resistance, and it would be better to find a new position to better kill the Ukrainians, not in order to claim more land. Meanwhile everyone watches the maps like a hawk - and jump to the conclusion that Russians are greedily claiming land because they want land. That's a wrong assumption.

Cause Russia learned that owning territory where the people don't want to be owned is nothing but a headache, and is the quickest way to bring down a nation by polluting it population.
