The US sub was said to have executed an emergency surface (a spectacular sight), but nothing was shown. At one point, the US carrier was shown with the deck covered with aircraft, no room for operations. Plenty of example missile launches that did not happen in reality. So, it was one step better than a cartoon, but was not live action. The account of the episode was probably real enough. The discussion of the electronic warfare was interesting.
