They don't address this point outright, but in reading the comments, I realized a stark reality: Europe has to be permanently excluded from the outcome in order for there to be peace, temporary or lasting. (You have to lock up the pusher so the junkie can stay clean.) So, no NATO membership or EU membership (like Switzerland). And, if it were left up to me, I would extract US from interfering in the resulting Ukraine and let Russia provide the security assurances.
