I believe fudging the crime statistics is happening in many cities across America. It hurts the current city’s administration’s ability to stay in power or their chances to obtaining a position in another city if crime rates are outrageous or haven’t shown improvement over their tenure.
They talk of crime is down, all the while, someone is getting mugged, their car is being stolen, or someone getting shot right behind them. Residents are being told that there is nothing that can been done when they’ve been victimized, if they can’t identify the criminal. In many instances no reports are made to indicate that a crime was ever committed.
In our small city, a young man was obviously murdered in his apartment. Blood everywhere. Report said he died of natural causes. No investigation. Family came to town found a neighbor’s surveillance video of a suspicious person entering the apartment, loud banging noises are heard, and he is seen wiping down door knobs as he was leaving. Police never even asked to see it.
It’s getting to the point where if you don’t have undeniable verifiable evidence right in front of them, then it didn’t happen according to them. Sad.
This happens in many police depts. Why do you thing Bozo DeBlasio wanted to lower the cost of a Citi bike from $1,000 to under $900? So its not a felony.
