For public good I would rather them them dead to the world in a guarded box than only 50% dead to the world and the rest of their time stealing for the next high.
Truthfully though, I think they should only have a couple real chances at sobriety. Give them a true rehabilitation where no drugs enter, career skills that we demand illegals for and a work/housing program and I if they can’t stick with it after 2 6 month opportunities the next time they are picked up under intoxication it’s just death, no appeals.
Their lives will be just as bad when they are overmedicated in an institution.
May be true, but the lives of everyone else that came into contact with them on the streets will be better and safer.
Then they will muck rake over the terrible conditions they are being held in. I don't think you can win with crazy people.
