I'm a felon. Got caught painting freight trains in my 20s and they threw the book at me. It used to cause me problems for finding employment but now I do pretty good for myself and my home. I own land and have plenty of guns in my house. I just cannot drive around with them. Nobody handed me anything except a hard time in life so people that are prone to making excuses for their actions' words fall on deaf ears with me.
In reference to the whole "I'm gay born this way and can't change" narrative that society pushes. You can change but you don't want to because it's difficult and you're lazy. You want to do what's easy which is why you will be stuck with a tortured life.
Felon is a stigmatized word. People can change. I don't do anything illegal anymore. No drinking. No drugs. Plenty of friends that are not criminals. Many people I know that are older than me tell me on a regular basis that I'm the smartest person they know. When I was younger I did stupid stuff because I didn't know how to be bored.
Some felonies are terrible though. Like anything assault or theft related.
