Spain offers a similar right of return. That one doesn’t get brought up much. Plenty of other nationalities have issues with mixed allegiances. In term one, we had a “La Raza” member (literally “The Race”) Mexican heritage judge attempt to put an injunction on Trump’s immigration policy. Meanwhile, Indians have promoted mass H1B immigration.
There’ve been previous (and current) issues with other ethnic groups doing the same thing - even “white” ones in times past (Italians, Irish, Polish. Heck, Bill Clinton might have been an agent of the British Crown with his Rhodes Scholarship). Even simpler things like campaign donations - how do we address a local road building company financing a city transportation department head into office? “Talk about creating conflicts of interest.”
The core issue seems to be how to address divided loyalties with government officeholders and corporate leadership. Not to take away from the one you pointed out, just reminding that it’s one (big) piece of a bigger picture.
Active enemy combatants holding an office is, of course, even worse.
