Back in 2017 I had a salvage yard transmission put in my (now 27 year old) E-250. Cost just under $1500. Eight years and 42,000 miles later everything is still operating well with it.
Did it hurt at the time? Yeah, I was making $18,000 a year back then before taxes came out.

Well, on the plus side:
(1) You have assets to liquidate,
(2) Silver is valued highly at the moment.
Do what you have to and move on.

Do what you have to do. You can't sit at home with a broken tranny.
