All he taught the kid is to back down whenever a Karen make demands....regardless of whether they have merit.

Strong men show restraint when weak people try to escalate a situation over trivial issues. After all, the strong did win the day, kid and dad got a ton of pretty non trivial items and the weak Karen got a ball that will forever identify her as a lunatic bitch.

the fact that kid got lucky AFTER the fact is nice result but irrelevant in the grand scheme

It has NOTHING to do with the "trivial" ball and everything to do for standing up

He could have shown restraint without giving in and letting someone else TAKE what is yours just because they make a racket.
