Your premise that Israel is connected to God is unfounded. The land called israel doesnt hold the people God made the original covenants with called. They rejected the savior which the covenenant promised, they simply are designated unbelievers now. They have to approach God through Christ or not at all now.
The point is: the Savior did not reject THEM. In fact, he forgave them for their folly. They became the first of the church adherents. They are still open to the Gospel.
Exactly, they can still accept Christ like any gentile can. But they have no special favor in their current condition. God said He is no respecter of persons. If they believe they get shifted over to the believer side as all unbelievers should.
