We had a middle manager (modem manufacturing company) who used a speakerphone all the time - way up loud. It annoyed the whole floor. One day he was out and another manager soldered a resistor across the speaker leads. First guy hired a bunch of techs who couldn't figure it out. Finally, he called in one of our in-house modem repair techs who found the resistor. It was hysterical! I remember the second manager walking by my desk with the soldering iron in his hand and a big smile on his face.
