Ukrainian girl was stabbed by a black guy with a knife - they can try to memory-hole it because they don't want to talk about rampant violence, especially a black-on-white (precisely-executed) slaughter of "an innocent female victim"

Kirk was shot by a white guy with a gun - they can demonize 2 things: 1) the gun and 2) white guys (even if it means sacrificing one of their own [he's a Democrat]), and 3) might even be able to blame Kirk (and all conservatives) for inciting violence with his "hateful" rhetoric that presents a "threat to our democracy".
