I don't know why ABC doesn't just say, "The Jimmy Kimmel show has been losing money for years and it has been on our front burner recently for that reason, but with Kimmel's recent offensive comments about Charlie Kirk and his continued movement into political commentary rather than comedy, the show no longer fits our corporate needs nor is his show the authorized messenger of ABC's corporate identity or image. We owe a duty to our shareholders, and continuing in this trajectory of financial and reputational loss has crossed the line where we were compelled to act. We wish Mr. Kimmel success in his future endeavors."
Probably a corporate deal with his contract where they couldn’t just fire him without paying unless he broke some clause. Assuming their position is that his comments broke his contract, letting them get out without giving him a pay day.
