This is your first step. If you dont trust the generic website pipeline, call your local police department (local dispatch number, NOT 911). Be polite and ask if they have an FBI contact you can reach that they trust.
FYI they may transfer you to a detective, seargent, or Lieutenant: realize this is normal. Dispatch is kinda part, well, dispatch, and part secretary for the officers. They can't know everything, just like anywhere else, so they differ many questions to others.
Also, they might want to know why you are wanting to talk to FBI, so it would be a good idea to tell them too. They might actually have a joint task force operating in the area, and be able to get the information to them directly. They may also want to just verify the information so that you're not wasting the FBI's time. This is also normal.
You would not believe the number of people that call in with garbage reports just to purpousfully waste cop's time, play pranks on them, etc..
