When I was young, I served on the ANSI ASC X12 committee for Electronic Data Interchange. The Finance committee had an Insurance subcommittee originally to do the work of standards setting for the Insurance transaction types (like healthcare eligibility and claims, etc.) The Insurance subcommittee grew so large that it was spun off into its own standing committee. It became the largest standing committee of ASC X12.
Oh what young people naively work on. Sometimes I wish for a greater ability for young ones to envision more fully the implications of their work.
ps. I did not serve on the Finance or Insurance committees, but I did serve on another standing committee in multiple roles.
This post brought those memories and biases back into my mind.
