I think this is the religious version of Globalism at work. If the Pope says all the "right" things according to the approved narrative - on climate change, for instance - then the Pope will eventually have the global position as head of all religions.
He will be the Archbishop of Canterbury, Grand Imam, Chief Rabbi and Head of the Catholic Church etc all rolled into one.
