I don't disagree with your comment. But helping the less advantaged people by equipping them to compete better with the better advantaged people is the solution: ie, public schools providing free tutoring for kids not doing well in school, etc. The solution they are proposing is -- rather than to help the disadvantaged to be uplifted -- to force the advantaged down to the same level as the disadvantaged. Its a system of enslavement and control deceptively portrayed as "equity."
I'm not advocating for equal outcomes. I'm just pointing out that no amount of extra tutoring is going to make someone with an IQ of 80 able to compete in the job market with someone with an IQ of 120. It's not that all these people choose to live in lower standards. Many don't have the ability to do the jobs that would significantly lift them up economically.
That doesn't mean we should have Communism.
We can have what humans have always had - different outcomes. Even under Communism, there are different outcomes - the leaders and their goons thrive, while the majority of people suffer under subjugation and terror.
In a rich country, we should have a reasonable - and well-audited - safety net for those who truly can't compete in the job market. We should promote the idea that recipients should be appreciative of such charity, not feel "entitled" to it. Without the smart, hard-working, and innovative people who create the wealth and the inventions that enrich all our lives, we would all be a lot poorer.

Totally agree.
