I love this - but... I'm not sure Trump can do that. This will be interesting. It will have to go directly to SCOTUS. Hopefully they rule that nobody can overturn a legal, signed pardon but that an autopenned pardon (along with appointments - judicial and otherwise) is not legal and therefore not valid. It is extremely easy to show that all of the signatures (save Hunter's pardon) match the autopen.
That said - maybe the demons planned on this and deleted the signatures from the autopen machine. That would throw a giant wrench (the kind that tighten the nuts on a nuclear reactor head vessel) into the process. Note - the nuts are on average over 8" tall and close to 11" wide. It takes a special machine tool to loosen and/or tighten them. The more you know...
Trump should skip all the drama from the left and just ask SCOTUS to rule on this.
The bigger problem is the signature on pardons is just a formality, so it has no bearing over the legality of the pardon itself. The constitution simply says 'presidents can pardon'. Even if they add a new rule that a pardon requires a physical in-person un-aided signature, that can't be retroactively applied, but only to pardons going forward.
SCOTUS is going to dump this one, there's simply nothing supporting it.
If a Presidential Pardon is signed by autopen and the President didn't order it or has zero knowledge of it ... that person is guilty of forgery, impersonation of the POTUS, and probably many other crimes. Also, if a legal document is known to be forged the document is invalid.
It doesn't matter if it says pardons don't have to be signed. The problem here is they WERE signed, illegally.
SCOTUS is not going to dump that.
You know what is just beyond stupid? It appears likely that almost nothing requires a presidential signature. Even passed CONgressional bills. He can skip signing of course if he wants to veto it, he can veto and if CONgress overrides the veto it doesn't need his signature, and if he goes 10 days (not including Sundays) without signing a bill while CONgress is in session (not adjourned) he doesn't need to sign it and it becomes law.
CONgress needs to codify the requirement for POTUS to sign anything of significance to the US.
