AMD has a backdoor in a similar manner to the "Intel Management Engine" called the PSP. The Intel Management Engine literally renders Epstein obsolete as the state can load up your computer with anything they want at any time and the devil is in the details.
Complete separate operating system (Minix OS) on the zero ring which thanks to intel was the most popular OS in the world at one stage and no one knew they were running it. It is my feeling that consumers did not punish Intel but industry and business may have moved away but like I said, AMD does it too.
