The first three words, 'A medical substance' to me is misleading. My old man was a PhD Chemical Engineer and worked in the pulp and paper industry. It was a solvent that was stacked up in 55 gallon drums. We kept a small bottle of the stuff around for topical treatments (usually small burns). What makes DMSO interesting is that topical application transdermally goes into the bloodstream. If you applied some to your skin, you would taste it withing minutes.
