I know it has brain effects including the potential for repairing minor brain injuries(strokes and what not) as well improving the development of brain functioning and development of people with autism, dementia etc., don't know about heavy metals though.

The problem is that even though there are lots of studies on the efficacy of DMSO there is nothing about how and why DMSO actually works as there seem to be zero financial impetus to drive any research into the mechanisms involved,,,
