He probably didn't like having to watch what he said, and of course the money wasn't comparable to what his show was making. I never thought Bongino would be money hungry-but I guess it could happen to anyone-even him.
Government service is not about the money, as all the RINO's and Dems/Commies have made it out to be. It is about self-less service and doing what is good for the country, not oneself.
Did you happen to hear his last show? He said then he willingly is taking a giant pay cut to serve the country. Obvi, he knows the pay before he started in the position. Think he just realized this?
I was thinking that there may be another angle to Dan stepping away. Right now there are several topics that seem to be dividing the MAGA base. The timing feels very organized as though we are being lined up on the opposite sides of these topics and set against each other. Maybe Dan had more impact with his podcast and now has more of an inside view. Maybe he has a new role to fill.
No, but it may have bothered him the longer he was there, plus he had to watch what he said. Maybe a combination of both or one or the other. It is really difficult to walk away from freedom and entangle yourself into "watching" what you say or the standard line you are supposed to put forward. Maybe money wasn't the reason. I think it played a part though.

Wow! Your immediate go-to is that it's about the money...
Yes it is. I know east he gave up to take that job. It is only my opinion, do take it as value less to you.
