When I saw and read the article I immediately saw through her rant. This was her fault - period. I don't know how far she is in her pregnancy, but she knew her condition. I don't know if she wanted special treatment or not, but all she had to do was plan ahead and get to the airport earlier.
She was always going to get a pat-down because she has a bump in her belly and she refused to to through the scanner. Could be a baby, could be cash/drugs/explosives/weapons. Her dad is the Secretary of Transportation - she knows about TSA.
If she wants to get through faster or easier she is free to get precheck or clear. We shouldn't have to do that, but until someone abolishes TSA those are the choices (or just don't fly). I have precheck - I've had it for over 10 years.
Personally I can't stand TSA. They bring nothing to the table, and their own audits show they miss 95% of the weapons in their own audits. They steal stuff, they abuse their authority, and they get off on power and molesting passengers.
If I get "randomly selected" after going through the metal detectors I tell them they will have to pat me down because I'm never going through the scanners. Keep in mind I am usually wearing one of my old Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) polo shirts just in case I get selected. During the patdown they stare at my shirt (with the NRC govt logo), and I tell them they need to stay away from the radiation as much as possible so they can avoid getting cancer for a little while. I screw with them about the constant radiation they could get if they stand right beside the scanner openings. If that doesn't work I have been known to moan when they start rubbing my pants (love to make them uncomfortable).
I still think security would be better if they just allowed us to travel like we used to before 9/11. I always had a knife (or 2). We could bring drinks from home instead of paying $6-10 for a damn water. Because airports have a captive audience they take advantage of everyone and charge such high prices for everything that it amounts to extortion.
When the average person gets to a big city airport they stand in a huge line with hundreds of stupid people, get abused by the stupid people from TSA, and robbed by the (very likely 3rd-world) vendors (including parking and toll exit fees). Depending on the season there is a good chance the flights will be delayed or canceled. When they arrive there is a fair chance their luggage will be 10 states (or countries) away from them. So basically a traveler is shit on for the whole trip - no wonder there are so many issues (including fights onboard).
Get rid of the damn TSA. The govt likes to do studies - commission one to find a better answer. If they can study shrimp on underwater treadmills they can figure out how to replace TSA.
They do not have the right to violate our rights. They aren't cops and should never be authorized to touch our bodies. Put actual police officers in their place and see what happens.
