Southeast Texas! Shorts and t-shirts, briskets smoking! Cliche', but cold Lone Star beer too! Merry Christmas y'all!
Greater Houston here. We’re grilling oysters and having oyster soup tonight.
Too warm to be Christmas this year.
Merry Christmas!
Central Texas. Eating tomatoes out of the garden!!
Very nice! My family was in Arkansas when I was young and they would always make a plate of tomatoes with dinner during the summer. I never understood it because tomatoes sucked, right? Little did I know that store-bought tomatoes SUCK and the ones from their local farms that they drew from were great.
Mmm...grilled oyster soup sounds wonderful! Is it similar to chowder?
Two different dishes. Grilled oysters (with cheese and such) and oyster soup. The oyster soup is most similar to the brothy clam chowder I had in Boston.
I haven't shucked and grilled oysters very often because it requires some work. (we live near the coast so this is a great time of year to go and get fresh seafood) My shucking was good, but I should have taken off the oysters once they were sizzling because the carry-over heat of the hot oyster shells continued to cook the oysters once they were taken off. They were still good, but not perfect; a smidge over done.
It's dark this time of year so it makes grilling outside difficult, even with artificial light.
Yes, but I bet they were fabulous! We not brave enough to shuck 'em...we just buy them.
We ate brisket tonight! Yum!
