in economic theory, there has to be so much money in circulation, or things grind to a halt.
it doesnt matter how that money gets into circulation, whether it’s by private sector activity, or by government activity.
So by this theory, if the private sector slows down, the government can increase spending to keep the same amount of money in circulation…
Furthermore, it is well known that society is never more than 9 missed meals away from a revolt
So, the government has to feed people pretty much every day or they will revolt
Indeed, even you would revolt if you missed 9 meals
So, they have to come up with ways to increase government spending, and decrease the chances of revolt
So they come up with all these bullshit programs, just as a way to spend money
I literally watch them tear up 10 miles of perfectly good freeway that I drive over every day… then they laid the 10 miles of freeway back exactly the way it was before. Not one single change was made.
They tore up that freeway and replaced it as “busy work” for the construction workers, to increase government spending. The contractor-owner got paid well too.
Strangely enough, a few miles down the freeway from there, there was actually sections that really did need replaced, and they completely ignored that for several more years
