Blue Diamond is shutting down it's processing plant in Sacramento, California, which is high cost to maintain old buildings, is in a high cost real estate area and difficult for trucking. Their manufacturing is being moved to the California Central Valley, which is rural, cheaper labor, newer buildings and is closer to the almond growing area.
"Blue Diamond Growers, the world's largest almond processor, is shutting down its historic Sacramento plant, which had operated for over a century at 16th and C streets in Midtown Sacramento.
The closure, announced on June 6, 2025, will result in the elimination of approximately 600 jobs over the next two years, with layoffs occurring in phases starting in September 2025 and concluding in September 2026.
The company cited the high cost and inefficiency of operating from the aging, historic buildings—some dating back to 1914—as the primary reason for the move, opting instead to consolidate manufacturing at its modern facilities in Turlock and Salida in the Central Valley.
Although the corporate headquarters will remain in Sacramento, the closure marks a significant shift in the city’s industrial landscape and reflects broader economic trends of manufacturing consolidation away from high-cost urban centers."
They dug a Deep Water canal from SF Bay area to export Rice and Wood Chips then closed the nearby Rice Grower Association & Farmers Rice CO-OP. Just part of the elimination of American industry as this Currency Ponzi comes to it's inevitable end .
