I'm more against CA state government than most folks, even the ones here, but I can state with absolute certainty that the smog in the 80's and 90's was a lot worse than it is today. I can't tell you which of the plethora of laws or regulations are effective, and I'm sure there are plenty of stupid ones (really sure: like banning backyard barbeques and home fireplaces stupid, and many more, probably the majority of them), but the CA air today is much cleaner than it used to be.
And cleaner than the air in a lot of other countries that have less laws and usually a lot less traffic.
When I was in elementary school I would play soccer till I could hardly breathe in LA county. When I flew out of LA we would pass thrue a brown cloud of pollution. It was very bad. Early 70s.
Yes, I remember. It's much better now. One marker is that whenever I go to the beach, most days I can see Catalina. In the 70s it was nearly impossible.
I agree with you on the carbon tax. I think it's primarily the emission control regulations that helped. There's a lot that can be done to lower gas prices and taxes without dirtying the air we breathe.
I was disputing only the idea that none of CA's policies have been helpful in cleaning up the air, when it's clear that they (some of them, probably the earliest ones from the 80's and definitely not the carbon tax BS) have made a big and helpful difference. Which still leaves about 40 years of grift to be tackled.
And in Maryland, the road taxes are adjusted for inflation so our politicians don't have to raise the tax anymore. They go up on their own when the inflation goes up. Lazy Dems/Commies in Maryland got scared of the people (and they should be-afraid-very afraid) they tax and fee Marylanders to the nth degree. It shouldn't be this way but we live in a VERY BLUE state and it isn't getting better anytime soon.

Change to unleaded gas made a huge difference.

When china and india work to reduce their massive atmospheric pollution and river-clogging trash pollution, I’ll start to pay attention.
Some of those fuktards are buying up woodlands, for carbon credits and pricing people off the land.
Trying to push people into their shithole cites,

More economic lockdowns of the people.
