Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

There are only four meatpacking companies in our nation. BlackRock owns ALL FOUR of them. They also control a large portion of the *pharmaceutical industry.
*”BlackRock has significant investments in various pharmaceutical companies, including top holdings like Eli Lilly and Company, UnitedHealth Group, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. However, the exact number of pharmaceutical companies it owns outright is not specified, as BlackRock primarily manages assets on behalf of clients rather than owning companies directly.” -AI
There are independent meat packing companies in my area. I would think they are nationwide. One that I know of also processes deer during hunting season. There’s a lot of independent small ranchers in the US. Not as many as there once was. We buy 1/4 cow from local farmers, they use the ones local to them. I have not searched for them, the farmer/rancher chooses the processor.
Search for a local rancher/farmer for your meat and eggs. There’s a huge difference in taste and quality. I used to only eat steak with ketchup and worcestershire, now I only use salt & butter. Also would only eat Tbone or ribeye. Any cut tastes great from the local farmer. Check out your local farmer’s market for them. If you have facebook look on marketplace or local community groups for sources. I found a great lady that sells eggs less than two miles from me. Two years ago I asked in a local group for eggs. Also in some communities people that sell eggs have a stand and cash box. I haven’t seen that in my area. Eggs would be stolen in this EBT area. The coastal area I go to has many local egg stands in their yard. It’s most definitely unique and old school.
Also many former smaller supplement companies are owned by pharmaceutical companies. Just like small independent food, cleaning products & body products get bought by the bigger companies. You really have to research what you are buying.
