Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

The Great Awakening is misnomer. The Indecent Exposure would be more appropriate.
Lol
A lesser title but still accurate.
Romans 8:25 - But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. https://www.bible.com/bible/59/rom.8.25
Random thought, concerning the dumbing down of American’s. I live on a busy two lane road. This boggles my mind. How can people function that drive cars with loud boom, boom, boom, rap music coming out of huge speakers? I hear it probably 1/4 mile before it gets to me. Lord forbid you are beside one on the street. There brain and organs must have damage from the vibrations. I’ve experienced serious vibrations when being in front of a speaker at a few concerts. It’s not pleasant. I sure hope innocent kids are not with these people.
A quarter mile is not bad, where I'm from you can hear it 5 minutes away. The only good news is they're vibrating their cars to pieces.
That’s right, and no telling what they are doing to their bodies.
I went to a Chicago concert in 1970, my first concert ever. I sat close to the front so I could see better. Big mistake. I was almost deaf after the concert. It took a while for my hearing to come back. Never again.
Exactly the same here! For me it was Blue Oyster Cult at the Nassau Coliseum in 1980 it took 3 hours for my hearing to come back never went to a concert again.
Other than possible ear damage I bet that was a great concert. I don’t know how many concerts I’ve attended & in the front row. For about six years my daughter and went to many concerts. Even though it was loud I never felt like I couldn’t hear. I wonder if concerts were louder in the 70s. Probably not because the technology has improved, but I don’t know. Unless someone was in the car with me I’ve always played music too loud. Not ear drum busting but loud. I don’t anymore.
The speakers at the Chicago concert were the biggest I've ever seen. The boxes had to be 8 or 10 feet tall, the best I can remember as I was just 17 and it was over 50 years ago.
Wow that’s huge. No wonder you said never again. Probably in the long run it doesn’t matter what time period or technology. It’s loud at concerts. The closer you are to the stage the louder worse it’s on your hearing. The speakers I’m speaking of are (I believe) Marshall. A few artists I’ve seen had chest high speakers lined in front of the stage. A decade ago you were close enough to the stage to touch it. Plus you got the massive speakers hanging above the stage. I’ve only been to country concerts that are more like rock concerts as far as it being loud. I believe the vibration I experienced was because they didn’t have speakers adjusted properly. Now the barrier is further away from the stage. For obvious reasons because people are crazy and climb on the stage. These days if I go to a concert it’s a small venue with older or lesser known artists. My priorities have shifted with grandkids.
I went to a lot of concerts in college, but I never sat close. I have also gone to some local concerts, but they weren't as loud. In recent years I have seen Riders in the Sky, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Kathy Mattea, Ricky Skaggs, and Doc Watson. In college I saw Sha Na Na, John Denver, Mary Travers, the Earl Scruggs Revue, John Hartford, and the Raspberries.
Oh that’s a great list of concerts. I’m jealous of you seeing John Denver. I’ve always loved his music & listen to him often. I’ve been blessed. My daughter and I started going to concerts regularly around 2016. One year we did over twenty, sometimes three in a weekend. We had a dog at the time and the three of us couldn’t go together. My husband and I took turns going with her when we started going to Chris Stapleton out of town. Three days in a row in the pit. I’m glad I experienced it before the world started showing its crazy. I’m not interested in being packed like sardines anymore. I miss the adrenaline rush but not the hassle. For at least five years we saw a lot of artists. Our priorities have changed, with two grandchildren. Great chatting with you.
and all the hotels where one side is facing right next to busy freeways, multi-resident apartments and condos near railway tracks where the freight trains blast their horns at 11pm or midnight every night, as if someone doesn’t know they should not walk on RR tracks or that if their vehicle is stuck on one it might be time to “run away”
That’s right fren. I can’t imagine thinking I can beat a train. I’ve heard people raised in big cities can’t sleep in places that’s very quiet. Road noise doesn’t bother. I’ve lived on this highway my entire life. I most definitely agree with you.
John 3:16-27
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
