Umm....I'm thinking it's got more to do with the Monroe/Donroe Doctrine & protecting the Western Hemisphere - in the Arctic circle.

That would allow US to control the Bering Strait AND both Straits of Greenland, plus put monitoring hardware on the Northern coast of Greenland & deploy patrols into the region.
We're getting something like 8 (I think?) Ice breakers from one of those ScandyNavyAn countries....We only have 1 right now. AND there's a deal with them to show the USA how to built their own.
Make shipbuilding great again. Newport News? Philly? Sup?
