People agitate for the removal of laws and regulations regarding various vices, sins, and other less than savory activities . Then subsequently rediscover why previous generations decided on passing laws either outlawing or regulating such things to the point of ridiculousness.
We’ve been trying to instill it for a Millennia. Hundreds of attempts large and small. Both organized and unorganized. As human history can attest to.
What we’ve found is it never been exceptionally effective. Sure it works to an extent on the surface level. But it inevitably thrives underneath the surface. Whether it’s religion, social or cultural norms, or various forms of Government trying to do the instilling of morals.
Hence why so many people’s and cultures inevitably resorted to the usage of the stick of Government. Which has its own plethora of philosophical and ethical issues.
Our kids do it as a hobby. Because it's so simple to just throw 10 or 20$ a weekend on a game -right through an app on their phone .
Kids think it's harmless-of course I know better.
I think the apps should be illegal, at the very least. It's too easy to suction off income of people who really shouldn't be spending any money, let alone wasting it.
They should have to deal with a bookie too. That'll scare em straight.

So many of our social ills have been solved before. When I first read this quote it clicked me for.
