8 U.S.C. § 241, known as the Conspiracy against rights statute, is a federal criminal law that prohibits two or more persons from conspiring to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any individual in the exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured by the U.S. Constitution or federal laws.
This law originated as Section 6 of the Enforcement Act of 1870, enacted to combat white supremacist violence and protect the civil rights of newly emancipated Black Americans during Reconstruction. It was later revised and codified as Section 241 in Title 18 of the U.S. Code in 1948.
THEY ARE USING IT TO PROSECUTE A BLACK WOMAN! Oh the irony!
I wish that 42 USC 1983 was involved in this prosecution. It just happens to be known as the Ku Klux Klan Act 🤣
