Expecting record lows in south Mississippi, 15 tonight. At least rain should be over at temp drop. Still, 15 degrees here will be devastating. Pipes/water systems are not prepared for this.
The pipes won't freeze if you keep the water moving...
Instead of totally turning off your sinks - let them run all night in a thin stream - like 1/8" stream.
GO LOOK NOW - At your main water shut off. Find it & make sure the valve is working. HOLD IT WHILE TURNING IT! - since it doesn't get much use...EASY! Nice and easy....work it a little. Don't FORCE anything!
If your pipes freeze/burst, shut off the main water valve.
This!! Also leave your sink cabinet doors open so more heat can get to the pipes.
Outside faucets, remove any hoses or Y-connectors from the faucet. Then wrap rags or towels around the faucet, use duct tape if needed to keep the wrap tight.
And you can use a Styrofoam drinking cup from your favorite drive thru burger joint, fill with insulation or newspaper and place over your outdoor faucets if don't have faucet cover from the hardware store
My favorite time is summer. I keep saying “how many days till spring” because it’s closer than summer. My non full or half full glass mind (empty glass) trying to be positive. Although I love April because it’s my birthday month. You would have loved to see my mom’s & grandma’s yard. Full of daffodils & dogwood trees blooming. The bulbs they planted have either been eaten by voles or died off. Most of the dogwoods are dying out. Growing up the woods were full of wild dogwoods & it was a sea of white flowers in the spring.
Hubby fixed the well house up with a heater, wrapped all above-ground pipes and water is dripping at the most distant points. I’m thankful to not be on city water right now.
Awesome! It’s great having a handyman. I wish we were not on city water. I only shower, brush teeth & laundry with it. Smells like chlorine half the time. My house had a very old shallow well used for outside only. Hubby got the old hand pump working but only black gunk came up. It’s under our patio now. My house & my daughter’s house was on the same well because it was family property. My papa switched to city water when they ran it. Technically I don’t have rights to the well because it’s on daughter’s property. I know she doesn’t care. Don’t want to go through the expense and it doesn’t work. Plus if we ever move that would be a mess with two different owners of property and one well. I’m so tired of buying water & relying on that. Oh well it’s a tiny problem to have. I’m glad you won’t have frozen water. That’s a pain!

I hear you & agree. Thankful for heated electric blankets. Patiently waiting for spring.

drip, drip, drip 💧 & keep the doors open under sinks. If you have a well put a light bulb in pump house or fake rock.
