So many view Bono as this sweet angel of a guy, or whatever. Once you understand how Bono got his name, things start to make more sense. His real name is Paul David Hewson, and he was given the nickname "Bono" by Derek Rowen, aka/Guggi of the band Virgin Prunes, a close childhood friend.

Paul Hewson has been known as Bono since the late 1970s, around the same time U2 was formed. Bono Vox is an alteration of the Latin phrase Bonavox, which translate to good voice - shortened to Bono.
