September 2025 👉Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced in September 2025 that the state is moving to end all vaccine mandates, specifically targeting those required for children to attend school. This initiative aims to make Florida the first state in the U.S. to eliminate all such requirements, which Ladapo characterized as "wrong" and akin to "slavery".

While the DOH has the authority to change these rules without the legislature, as of late January 2026, it had not yet formally published a final rule to finalize their removal.
Note on COVID-19: Florida already has permanent laws in place (passed in 2021 and 2023) that prohibit businesses, government entities, and schools from mandating COVID-19 vaccines.
