Sure, they deserve punishment, but rolling out retribution to tens of thousands of people is bad optics. It will look like we are some kind of bloody dictatorship, and to the normies, we will look no different from those we are replacing. If they are stripped of their wealth and power, unable to have pose any further threat, then punishment isn't constructive, it is only there to make us feel better. This is the reason why are 10 years in, and President Trump has not yet rolled out widespread punishment. It isn't needed for him to stay in power, which is why this is different from so many other situations in history. He's doing what is best for our future.
