I get your point. Without a doubt, we need some major overhauling to the system. But, I don't despise small beginnings as long as we are moving in the right direction. We may have to make some concessions to get this over the finish line. I think by at least getting some guardrails on the system it may be enough to finally show some glaring discrepancies from previous elections that will need to be addressed.

Requiring proof of citizenship upon registration and showing ID to vote in Federal elections is something we have been screaming be done for years. So far, it appears those elements remains intact in the bill. I would see no problem on a compromise of registration proof of citizenship be done every certain number of years or election cycles. That would also act as a safeguard for dead voters or people that have moved out of the area. I agree with you in that respect and I don't think it should be upon initial registration only. There needs to be periodic checks just to keep everyone honest, right - especially the Dems. I would hope that this option would be part of the discussions.
