I have a friend in SF who had a tree fall into her house and destroyed half the house. After it was all fixed, the building code people came in and said they couldn't sign off on her final inspection because she hadn't installed sprinklers, which are now required on any new room additions on existing homes. She hadn't installed sprinklers because they hadn't added square footage. However, the previous owners had added a room -- and the sprinkler law wasn't in place at that time -- and they are enforcing this code on her retroactively. I need to call her to see if it has been resolved yet.
I used to service sprinkler systems at PSU, my part of servicing was the Electronics. Yes there are electronic devices everywhere in a sprinkler system. They have to be tested every 6 months i belive, retired so I don't remember all that well I didn't test, just fixed the Electronics. Could be every year, but still the costs on top of the install are crazy. They have troubles all the time, the piping gets old, and from testing introducing new oxygenated water into the pipes, the rust faster and valves start sticking. All kinds of issues like that. It isn't install it and that's that, legacy cost would be enough to put owners out of business. Oh, and who regulates testing, big government of course.
Sounds like commie Colorado. We live rural, and there are not fire plugs near all the houses. So some of the houses in our area are built and required to have water storage for fire fighting. Makes sense, right? So our house has a fire plug right across the street from us. They tried to tell us when we built a garage that we needed to put sprinklers in the garage for fire suppression. About 20k added to the cost of the building. We fought it and won, however I'm sure it's still lurking in the updates.
We also have things voted on, and voted down. Voted on, and voted down. Then they suddenly are voted on and pass!!! Magic. It doesn't matter if something is voted down, if the dems want it, it'll eventually pass.
Oh, and we have Tabor and stuff that limits taxes. Guess what the Dems do? They pass "fees" instead. So our license plate renewal was not that bad, then they added on a million "fees" and suddenly it costs $700. Not taxes, fees. It's all verbiage to these idiots.
Here in Washington state we don't have income tax. But, some payroll taxes are considered "excise" taxes so they're OK. They're now trying to pass a "millionaires" tax. It's insanity.
We are too, on both of your statements. Foothills and looking for an escape destination. We are homeschoolers, and I'm sure it's a matter of time until that is taken away or fee'd to death...
What? In leftist run San Francisco? Who would have thought? This is how they get rid of people that own these condos, sell off the buildings to lets say Black Rock, retro fit them, then all the units become rental properties.
Who's looking to buy them? I remember reading of a big pharma company that wanted to buy a successful startup that was unwilling to sell. The big company basically got all these building code laws passed and pretty much bankrupt the successful startup into being sold to them for dirt cheap
That’s why the Demoncrats wanted to bring all these illegals to keep stealing everything from us and at the same time give it to BlackRock, ( you have nothing you must be happy) I am really disgusted.

Wow, all the blue states then. The masters need more taxes and several houses.
Calirado foothills here…searching for an escape destination. Just wait till new fire codes are smashed onto us in the WUI…

So much corruption.

I am too.
It's all of ours enemy
Correct.
Ha, yeah and I'd be surprised if you have a fire that you likely get an emergency water use fee to boot.
OH. THAT'S RIGHT.
