Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

I forgot about that, it’s very sad. Alcohol can truly mess up your life or even kill you.
I rarely go in the dollar tree, when I do the staff are always so nice. I went with my daughter before Christmas. The cleaning products and body products aisle smelled like very strong chemicals. The kitchen aisle with towels, place mats, pot holders and utensils smelled like plastic. The first thing that came to mind was are they trying to poison the lower income people? From my experience other income levels shop dollar stores, but I believe low income is the highest percentage. I don’t get why people buy everything for the house at dollar general, dollar tree and family dollar. If you compare prices to the size of the product it’s not cheaper. Dollar stores haven’t been cheap in fifteen years or more.
Convenience is why people go there. That's why they are called "convenience stores". kek
Price is probably number 2 on the list, but those stores you mentioned are everywhere like crabgrass.
I get what you are saying. In my area there’s a lot of lower income people on government support and that’s who you normally see at these stores. Most of the time they have the carts full. I don’t how many are doing weekly shopping and how many are just convenient shopping. My daughter gets a lot of kids craft stuff at Dollar Tree, it’s cheaper than Walmart.
I bet a dollar general will be in the desert at point😆 I don’t mind DG other than the smell, they can be cheaper than others but I rarely go because the store reeks of laundry detergent. I read it’s the bug repellent used in warehouse. I can’t confirm this. The last straw for me was eating ice cream out of the container and smelling the soap smell.
Our town had a "vintage" Dollar General store for years. A couple years ago they built a DG Market across the street. It is a big improvement. Much more visually appealing.
