One of the vans they seized a few years ago from Mexico had a large caliber machine gun on a rail system behind metal plates. Kind of like a humvee mounted browning. The idea being that the doors would swing open and this gun would slide out and unleash hell while simultaneously protecting the shooter inside the van.
I hope our border patrol seized all of the vans. I’m guessing they didn’t. Liberal shitholes like New Mexico and southern Arizona are really in for it if so.
That MIGHT penetrate an engine block, especially the green-tip armor piercing bullets, but it would certainly mess up anything else under the hood... radiator, wiring, etc.
Oh I'm VERY familiar with the .308 (or 7.62x51 NATO as we called it when I humped an M-14 for 2 years back in the day)... I know it's destructive force. I have an AR-10 and two other .308 rifles and shoot them periodically. I just wouldn't trust the round to penetrate very much into an engine block, the round deforms rapidly on steel, although I HAVE seen just a regular bullet, not even AP greed tip, pierce through a couple of stacked steel plates. A 20-round mag dump would certainly do an engine some damage, I'll give you that... but I wouldn't rely on it happening... especially when there are softer targets sitting in the driver's and passenger's seats.

.308 or higher to the engine block turns that van into a stationart tomb

.308 is a bigger cartridge than most give it credit
fmj to the engine, especially 20 rounds at a time, is going to stop a van
also I did say "or higher"
single shot 50 bmg is affordable now
