The "pope" (as a figurehead and not a specific individual) has not made an ex cathedra statement since November 1st, 1950. So, I don't think you need to suffer under this illusion that Catholics follow his every utterance like little robots.
You don't know the rules of the game. The pope can issue opinions about things but they're just that. Opinions need not be followed. The only time it becomes something you MUST follow is if it is a statement issued ex cathedra.
Let me tell you how things really work. There is a parish with a pastor. He may have several priests working under him. They say mass, dispense the sacraments, and arrange special devotions. The laity interacts with these people ONLY.
Once every great while (and it could be a span of 5 years or more) -- they arrange for a bishop to show up to perform confirmations. This ceremony involves fifty or more people getting confirmed and lasts about an hour. If I remember correctly the bishop spends about a total of one to two minutes with each person. My ceremony was done in Latin so there really wasn't much going on in terms of additional "communication" other than the obligatory prayers and my telling him the name I'd chosen. That is the ONLY time I have ever seen a bishop in my entire life. I am in my seventies.
Unless a person lives in Italy or travels to Rome -- they will probably never see any "pope".
This hierarchical structure just isn't as important to us as it apparently is to you. We don't care about it.
It doesn't affect the daily parish life. Masses get said, babies get christened, couples get married, children get their first communion, and people get buried. The church ladies have their pot lucks and Bingos. The dads have their baseball club. That club has a dance once a year. There's a church carnival. There are bake sales.
Do you think the pope knows or cares about all of this or us? Do you think we care about whatever they're doing up in the Vatican that doesn't affect us AT ALL on a daily basis?
Unless a "pope" has something to say ex cathedra life just goes on.

However -- I will NEVER become a Protesant because I am devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. So are most Catholics. And we are not going to abandon her. PERIOD. It's NEVER going to happen.

sure, the Bible calls her blessed, but the Bible also has 27 other verses about who is blessed. WE, as Christians are ALL blessed. Mary wasn't sinless. if that were so, the BIBLE would say it. it does not.

Pope Pius IX officially declared the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, stating that Mary was preserved free from original sin from the first moment of her conception, in the papal bull Ineffabilis Deus on December 8, 1854.

Now -- if you want to argue with the Blessed Mother about who she is -- be my guest. BUT we Catholics know who She is because She told us.
Protestants exist because Henry VIII wanted to marry Anne Boleyn. He desired a divorce from Catherine of Aragon. He attempted to use the fact that she had been previously married to his deceased brother Arthur to have the marriage dissolved but the Pope wouldn't allow it. So he broke off from the Catholic church and THAT is the beginning of Protestantism.
After Henry VIII broke off then every Tom, Dick, and Harry who had an issue with some aspect of the church decided to break off. THAT is why there are so many Protestant sects. IF you are all so much believers in the Bible there should only be one Protestant sect. But you guys can't even agree to a single interpretation of what it means to be a Protestant. It was more a matter of people wanting to do their own thing. Have at it. The bickering over the Reformation is long dead and we don't care what you believe or what you do anymore. Just realize that Henry VIII started it all and it was over his desire for a woman and stop trying to convince us it was because of the Bible.
