These quotes became iconic in American political history regarding scandals and public denials. 🇺🇸
Fyi - the "I didn't inhale" comment came because Al gore's son was caught dealing weed during a school dance at my high school. That's right - I was in the same school as he was at the time (St. Albans), and he & his fam were basically given the choice of either expulsion or withdrawing him from the school. Needless to say he withdrew to go to Sidwell Friends soon after. Last I checked his substance abuse problem carried on for several more years. Anyway, it became a whole thing, and Bill I think made his statement the same or following day.
The whole reason "I didn't inhale" became a phrase was because the VP's son got caught with weed very publicly. Everyone remembers the line Billy said, but no one (save probably the kids who were there like I was) remembers why he brought it up. Strangely enough it took the heat off the Gore family as a result, and Al Gore III was given basically a (mostly) free pass as a result.
