Not surprised. There had to have been back-channels for Reagan to win the release of the hostages. I am still glad Reagan won over the hapless Carter. I am more concerned if the alphabet agencies over threw the Shah and allowed the extremist mullahs to come to power.
Releasing American hostages finally was good. Allowing Iran to be taken over was a very bad thing.
There was a concerted lobbying effort on the Hill and daily protests about the cruelty of the shah and his executions and torture. Islamic takeover never mentioned and hardly anyone had heard of the mullah hanging out in France who pulled all his violent followers together almost instantly.
