I stopped for a pint in the pub yesterday evening and the barmaid was almost in tears because she said the card payment system had crashed and she couldn't serve anything. I assumed she meant her local system in the pub but in fact Worldpay had gone offline - it's a payment processor for hundreds of thousands of end users. Not the first time I have seen a large-scale outage like this.
I always carry cash but they still charged me almost seven quid for a pint of 4.3% IPA so I wasn't so lucky in the end.
